It’s been a while since my last blog post and almost a year since I first published my website. Since then, I’ve gone through some personal and professional changes that I would now like to be reflected on this site.

First things first, a reintroduction:

I’m a pop culture freelance critic and poet. I’m also non-binary and use they/them pronouns, so please do not address me using she/her. If you’ve got a problem with this, feel free to unfollow this site and read something else.

Although this site was originally created to be a hub for my freelance writing, I have now decided to make this my author website. I’m still making decisions in terms of services I may offer and other things, so you may see even more changes to this site in the future.

Even though this site is “new” in terms of the theme and purpose, the content will still be more of the same. Pop culture and writing pieces will still exist, and the categories may expand depending on how I feel. I will try and post once a week, but no guarantees. I do want to post regularly enough so that this website isn’t neglected.

Initially, I wasn’t sure about making Tonya’s Words an author website. I felt that my poetry publications weren’t significant enough, especially since I’ve yet to publish a chapbook or a full length book of poems. This past year and much of this year has made me want to boost myself more and have a space where I can write fun, thoughtful pieces without the pressure of pitching an editor.

While I do not intend to put all my thoughts and opinions on here, I want to express myself enough that I feel lighter and more cheerful inside. And I want to share these thoughts with others so they can feel the same.

As David Bowie sings in “Changes”, change can be strange, especially for the young. These changes I’ve as a poet and pop culture freelance critic has given me ups and downs, but I feel hopeful about where I am going right now. May I write many more words and gain many more readers to come.
