May was a productive month for me as a freelance writer. I managed to get two poems published in Videodame, the literary magazine about video games. I also did some Marvel Spider-Hero related writing, reviewing issues of the Spider-Punk series and commenting on the canceled production of the Silk tv series. See this and more below.
Poetry Publications- Videodame
Ode To Dragon Slimes– After the passing of artist Akira Toriyama, who worked on projects like the Dragon Quest video games and his own series Dragonball, I was inspired to write about the slime creatures from Dragon Quest. When I first saw them while playing Dragon Quest V years ago, they gave me a sense of whimsy that I needed.
From Neku To Joshua– This poem was inspired by my second playthrough of the video game The World Ends With You, which happened last summer. The characters and themes hit me harder this time around and I’m happy with how the final version of this poem came out after several drafts.

On 10 Years of Marvel’s Silk, the death of her Amazon series, and where Cindy Could Go Next– I was dismayed to hear that the live-action tv series for Marvel’s Silk had been shelved during the tenth anniversary of her comic book appearance. Since she is my favorite adult superhero character, I had to write down my thoughts on her and her untapped potential.
Experience Anarcho-Octo Terror In Spider-Punk Arms Race issue 3– I reviewed Spider-Punk issue 3, which was quite fun especially with the reveal at the end.
SUPERJUMP
Tales of Kenzera Zau Is A Beautiful, Slightly Challenging Meditation On Grief– I reviewed Sargent Studios’ gorgeous Metroidvania platformer Tales of Kenzera Zau, a lovely video game inspired by grief and Bantu mythology.
Nobou Uematsu’s Final Fantasy VI Soundtrack Set The Stage for Contemporary Music In JRPGs– Since this year is the 30th anniversary of the video game Final Fantasy VI, I wrote about how the soundtrack composed by Nobou Uematsu laid the groundwork for the use of contemporary music genres.
Popverse
Blue Exorcist Anime Watch Guide– Blue Exorcist is an anime series that made a surprise return after several years so I’d thought I’d do watch guide for it.
