As a freelance writer, I managed to finish off 2024 strong with my debut at the new pop culture news website Pop Heist, debuting my webcomic column at K-Comics Beat, and writing about some vital mental health resources at Into More. This year was rough for me personally, but I am proud of all the work that I have done this year and look forward to producing more content in 2025.
Pop Heist
Christmas Musical Jingle Jangle Helps Me Remember My Magic– I finally got to do an essay on the 2020 Netflix Christmas musical Jingle Jangle, which has since become one of my favorite Christmas movies.
Into More
10 Mental Health Resources For LGBTQ+ Folks– I wrote this feature article back in May 2024, but it ended up not going up until after the 2024 U.S. election in November. Now more than ever, it is important that I and others the LGBTQ+ community have access to the mental health support they need to survive and thrive.
LGBTQ+ peer support is important now more than ever– Published within a week of my LGBTQ+ mental health resource feature, this essay explains why local and online sources of peer support and mutual aid are necessary to the LGBTQ+ community.
K Comics Beat
Magic From The Margins: Sun Princess– For my November debut bi weekly column of Magic From The Margins, I reviewed the fantasy webcomic Sun Princess. Magic from the Margins focuses on sci-fi and fantasy webcomics from marginalized creators published on Webtoon and Tapas.
Magic From The Margins: Here There Be Dragons– I reviewed the lush fantasy webcomic Here There Be Dragons for my second column entry.
Magic From The Margins: High Spirits Neoma– I reviewed the terrifying and memorable supernatural webcomic High Spirits Neoma for my third column entry.
Magic From The Margins: The Uncommons– I reviewed the vibrant and poignant superhero comic The Uncommons for my fourth column entry.
Comics XF
Holiday Gift Guide- Superhero Comics Beyond The Big Two– I wanted to spotlight some superhero comic books that were indie rather than ones published by DC and Marvel. From manga to graphic novels, these comic books are by marginalized creators.
The cancellation of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur has us missing Disney’s 65-episode rule– This op-ed on the untimely cancellation of the animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur ended up being my most viewed article on Comics XF to date.
A tribute to Brooklyn, the character at the heart of a pulled Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur episode– Weeks after I wrote the first Moon Girl op-ed, I was compelled to write another after I heard Disney pulled an episode of Moon Girl that focused on the trans female character Brooklyn, an athlete on a high school volleyball team. I wrote this after watching the episode that was briefly available on YouTube and realizing how not airing the episode was a disservice to the struggles of trans athletes in the United States.
Mini Review Roundup: Dec 2024– I participated in Comics XF’s roundtable of mini reviews of comic book issues, including Miles Morales issue 26 and 27 and Spider Society issue 4.
