Summer turns to fall, but I’ve still stayed productive amid these changes. From continuing my column over at Pop Heist to writing about Black speculative media over at Black Sci-fi, I’ve written quite a few interesting pop culture articles in August and September.

Pop Heist

Date Everything- Soooo many options and so much fun– For my Queerly Nerdy column in August, I reviewed the sandbox dating sim Dating Sim Date Everything, where you can date any inanimate object in your house in human form using a pair of magical glasses.

Queerly Nerdy: Pink, Purple, and Fabulous– For September’s Queerly Nerdy column, I discussed the queer punk band Pinkshift, the book and 2023 movie adaptation The Color Purple, and the flamboyant and dashing Dragon Quest XI video game character Sylvando.

K-Comics Beat

Magic From The Margins: The Fantasy Book Club Brings Personal Demons To Life– I reviewed the Webtoon comic titled The Fantasy Book Club, which tackles mental health through an urban fantasy lens and a diverse cast of characters.

Magic From The Margins: Vio and Nox Is A New Boys Love’ Comic That’s To Die For– I reviewed the gay supernatural Webtoon Vio and Nox, which tells the hilarious tale of how the god of life and the god of death must learn to work together.

Black Sci-fi

Fumes issue 1 review– I reviewed issue 1 of M’shai Dash’s climate fiction (or cli-fi) comic book Fumes. It tells the story of a young woman fighting aliens in a near future where air has been privatized.

Captain Zero Into The Abyss Part II review– Z Cher-Aime’s ongoing Captain Zero animated project is something I’ve written about in the past, having reviewed part 1 of the project and interviewed the creator. Now, I’ve reviewed part 2 of the animated short film project, which expands on the world shown in the first film while exploring the mental themes a little deeper.

Comics XF

Bytchcraft issue 3 tackles a serious topic while continuing to explore its magical world– For Comics XF, I continued my coverage of Mad Cave Studios Bytchcraft by reviewing issue 3 of the mini series. I was surprised by how sincerely the comic discussed mental health while giving the protagonists a moment to themselves.

Ares Catches These Hands in Miles Morales issue 36– The “God War” arc has been my absolute favorite Miles Morales comic book arc I’ve read to date and its conclusion was mostly satisfying.

Boom’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind Tie-In Comic Celebrates The Past and The Future– When I learned that a Power Rangers video game would be getting a tie-in comic that also served as a tie-in to a Power Rangers tv movie that I loved, I had to review this fun and nostalgic ride.
