As the fall weather firmly took hold, I channeled all freelance work energy into being productive and it paid off. November saw me finally be successful at pitching The Nerdist, a pop culture news website. I also continued writing for Pop Heist, K-Comics Beat, Yatta-Tachi, and Comics XF. November marks one year since I started writing my K-Comics Beat column Magic From The Margins. I also had a new video game poem go up at Videodame in October.

The Nerdist

Why Static Shock Still Creates Waves Among Fans and Creatives Decades Later– This year marks the 25th anniversary of the DC Comics Animated Series known as Static Shock. To celebrate that and its influence on comic books and animation, I wrote this essay.

Yatta-Tachi

From Dull To Colorful- How Blue Period Rekindled My Passion For Digital Art– After going through trauma earlier this year, reading the manga Blue Period helped me start using digital art to rediscover my creativity. I explain further in this essay.

Black Sci-fi

Hello Stranger: Celebrating Ten Years of Niobe– When I learned that this year marks ten years since the debut of my favorite Black fantasy comic book character Niobe, I decided to do this reading guide to celebrate how her story has developed over the years.

K-Comics Beat

Ride or Die Is Fast and Furious In More Ways Than One– This is a mature, Black gay webcomic about street racing and demons. It’s intriguing and fun, with eye-popping art and cool characters.

Honey and The Moon Shows The Magic Of The Unexpected– This fun twist on the magical girl genre features an insecure depressed magical girl refusing the call to be a hero, until she meets a new friend. While this comic is still in its infancy, it is still pretty hilarious and heartfelt.

Pop Heist

Queerly Nerdy- Things Giving Me Glee– For my October edition of Queerly Nerdy, I wrote about things giving me joy in the aftermath of a difficult couple of months. I discussed getting into the tv show Glee, seeing the movie musical Kiss of The Spider-Woman, and playing Digimon Cyber Sleuth.

Queerly Nerdy- Angels, Aces, and Magical Girls– For the November edition of Queerly Nerdy, I wrote about long awaited new music by queer rapper Angel Haze, the mecha anime inspired video game Battle Suit Aces, and the 20th anniversary of the manga series Shugo Chara and its genderfluid character Nagikiko/Nadeshiko.
