Hey y’all. We’re a quarter of the way through 2026, and this post is fashionably late due to a lot of personal life stuff. Among them is the fact that I moved to a whole other state in March and had to get my dementia-addled mom and I settled into the new house with my older sister and brother in-law. Yet I still managed to be somewhat productive, both as a freelance writer and as a poet.
Without further ado, here is my freelance and creative writing work from January to April 2026. Be aware this post may be updated later as more of my work is published.
Videodame
Self-Portrait As Cubone– Inspired by not one but two different playthroughs of Let’s Go Pikachu, I wrote two poems for Videodame. This first one combined my love of Pokemon and my emotional experiences as a dementia caregiver.
The Nerdist
The First Freedom: The Story of Opal Lee and Juneteenth Author Angélique Roché On Her Impactful Graphic Novel– Back in January, I was given the opportunity to interview author and journalist Angélique Roché about the graphic novel The First Freedom, which tells the story of Opal Lee, aka “The Grandmother of Juneteenth.” The interview was published in February for Black History Month.
K-Comics Beat
Not Another Cliche Turns Creativity Into Magic– For my February entry for my K-Comics Beat column Magic From The Margins, I reviewed Simkray’s Webtoon dark isekai fantasy comic Not Another Cliche.
Yatta-Tachi
Cyber Phoenix Vol. 1 Review– In January, I reviewed this exquisite full-color sci-fi manga called Cyber Phoenix and it was an unexpected, action-packed delight.
Comics XF
On anxiety, caregiver stress and the end of Cody Ziglar’s Miles Morales: Spider-Man– Right before reviewing the final issue of Cody Ziglar’s Miles Morales run back in January, I decided to purchase and read all the previous issues to see what I missed out on and to better understand Raneem Rashad, one of Miles’ antagonists. After relating to both Miles Morales and Raneem on a deeper level, I felt compelled to write this essay.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man draws to a close with issue 42– Reviewing the final issue of Cody Ziglar’s Miles Morales run was bittersweet, but satisfying.
Pop Heist
Queerly Nerdy: Anime-Inspired & Very Gay– The January edition of my column Queerly Nerdy features LGBTQ work and creators inspired by Japanese anime. As a major anime fan, this was pretty fun to write.
Queerly Nerdy: Black, Queer, and Nerdy– The February edition of Queerly Nerdy spotlights Black queer creators and characters to celebrate Black History Month.
